Technically the term "menopause" refers to the end of menstruation. In reality most women see the menopause as a transitional period, starting with the perimenopause or time before the menopause, which can actually last up to 10 years.
During this time, some women may experience a number of unwanted physical symptoms including but not limited to:
Heavier or more irregular periods
Changes to skin and hair
Not surprisingly these changes can be difficult to live with.
Emotionally the menopause can also bring its own challenges. Mood changes, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and even depression can be a problem for many. Other symptoms may include changes to libido and appetite.
The menopause can also be a time in a womans life when significant life changes are occuring, perhaps relationships changing or ending, children leaving home, careers changing, or just a feeling that a new phase of life is beginning.
I frequently see female clients of "a certain age" who tell me that they feel they have lost their way, that their sense of personal identity is changing and they would like help in regaining their confidence.
Of course no two women experience the menopause in the same way and so there is not a "one size fits all" in terms of therapy. I can offer support in a number of different ways to help you:
Relax and manage stress
Learn to manage or even reduce hot flushes
Manage your weight by adopting a healthier lifestyle
Boost your confidence and self esteem
Build a new sense of personal identity
The first step would be to meet me for an in depth consultation so that we can put a therapy plan together for you. For some a couple of sessions may be enough, if your issues are more severe or more wide ranging then more may be needed.
I am more than happy to speak to you face to face or on the phone before you commit. Why not contact me now to see how I can help?
