There are a wide variety of fears and phobias ranging from the more common ones, such as a fear of spiders, to more unusual ones such as momophobia - this is a fear of being without mobile phone coverage!
Phobias can be extremely debilitating and can prevent you from doing normal enjoyable things such as going on holiday or travelling to visit family or friends.
Oftentimes clients with fears or phobias feel embarassed, they feel the phobia is silly and that they should be able to get over it. Sometimes there is a clear reason for why a phobia developed, but often the cause is not known.
Some common fears and phobias I work with include
Fear of flying Fear of spiders, dogs, or other animals Fear of heights Claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) Fear of blood, hospitals, and injections Agorophobia (fear of being in open spaces) Fear of driving Fear of social situations Emetophobia (fear of being sick or someone else being sick)
I have also worked with some more unusual phobias as well .
Children and teenagers often suffer from fears and phobias which may be made worse during times of stress, such as exams. Common fears for children include the dark, animals, being away from home, or exam nerves.
My preferred approach for working with phobias is Brain Working Recursive Therapy or BWRT. For simple fears or phobias, one or two sessions is usually enough. If the phobia is more complex, then more sessions may be needed.
