Are you trying for a baby? Have you been experiencing infertility? Are you embarking on IVF? Are you desperate to conceive?
For anyone experiencing infertility, the process of "trying for a baby" can become stressful, frustrating and isolating. If you are trying to conceive, or are experiencing difficulties conceiving, you may find hypnotherapy helpful.
I am a Certified Hypnotic Fertility Practitioner registered with Easibirthing. I have undergone in depth training to enable me to support men and women experiencing problems with fertility.
Hypnosis for fertility can work instead of, or alongside, medical interventions. Think of it as a way of supporting and maximising your chances of a successful conception.
While there may be many different factors to consider when looking at infertility, we do know that the mind/body connection is amazingly powerful. While it may seem incredible, research clearly shows that stress directly affects the proper hormonal functioning of the body in both males and females. It is ironic is it not that the stress of trying to conceive actually has the effect of reducing the likelihood of it happening!
It is an unfortunate statistic that fertility levels on the UK are declining and approximately one in six couples may find that they have difficulty conceiving. There may be many underlying causes for this, including lifestyle, genetics, or diet and nutrition. In up to 25% of cases there may be no clear physical reason why a couple cannot conceive, this is known as "unexplained infertility".
The process of assisted reproduction (commonly known as IVF) is not always an easy answer. Even if you qualify for treatment on the NHS you may only be offered one cycle, increasing the pressure to succeed. If undertaken privately, IVF treatment can be extremely expensive with one cycle of IVF costing between £3-£5,ooo. The process of IVF can in itself be extremely stressful, sometimes with unpleasant physical side effects. Not only that, but success rates can be disappointing, around 20% for women aged 39 to 40.
How can hypnotherapy help with infertility?
When working with couples experiencing infertility, my focus is not just on "getting pregnant" (although that is of course fantastic when it happens!) but on reducing stress and helping to increase feelings of positivity and a sense of being in control.
Every couple is different and therapy will be tailored to your individual needs but typically we could work on:
Identifying and reducing sources of stress in your life to boost your chances of conceiving
Understanding and tuning into the mind/body connection
Resolving any anxiety about medical procedures
Building your confidence and self esteem
Resolving grief from previous pregnancy loss where appropriate
Strengthening and supporting positive communication within your relationship
Helping to create a sense that there is life outside infertility
I see clients seeking help with fertility at the Isbourne Centre in Cheltenham. The first step would be to meet me for a detailed consultation so that we can identify what might be going on and put a treatment plan together.
I prefer to work with both halves of a couple and will suggest seeing you both together inititally and then individually. However if this is not possible, and depending on the nature of the problem, then I am happy to work with one partner individually.
